Hi, I'm Alex- A mixed media artist, illustrator, creative arts facilitator and the heart behind Art Nourishes the Soul 🌿
I have always been deeply creative since childhood, constantly drawn to making, experimenting, collecting materials, and translating ideas onto paper before the day ends. Creativity has always been woven into my daily life and way of thinking. Over time, I realized that many people never discover their creative potential simply because they have never been introduced to the materials, tools, or freedom that allow them to connect with it.
While taking art courses from grade school through college, I often felt very limited by the traditional supplies and methods available. Everything changed when I began working at a fine art supply retailer, where I discovered an entirely new world of artistic media and materials I never knew existed. Through curiosity, experimentation, and play, I taught myself how to manipulate materials in unconventional ways and discovered that there is no single “right” way to create. To me, any medium can become whatever you want it to be.
This philosophy became the foundation of my work. I noticed that once people were given permission to simply explore materials without fear or judgment, something shifted. The pressure dissolved. Confidence began to emerge. Often, individuals connected deeply with materials they had never encountered before, uncovering hidden strengths and creative abilities they didn’t know they possessed.
I have worked with a range of individuals and communities, including veterans through nonprofit art therapy initiatives, senior living facilities, children, and creative groups across different settings. My personal experiences as a mother have also deeply shaped my approach. Motherhood has become one of the greatest influences on my work. Raising my two sons, Avery and Luca—and especially learning alongside Avery as he navigates ADHD and dyslexia, has transformed the way I understand creativity. This has strengthened my understanding of different learning styles, sensory needs, emotional processing, and the importance of compassionate creative spaces.
It has taught me to celebrate different ways of thinking, value the creative process over perfection, and recognize that every person has unique strengths waiting to be discovered. Those lessons have become the heart of both my artwork and the experiences I hope to create through Art Nourishes the Soul.
I hold a special heart for children and adults who may feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, creatively blocked, or intimidated by traditional art environments. My sessions are centered around connection, encouragement, experimentation, sensory learning, intuition, and discovering confidence through the creative process itself.
Much of my artwork is inspired by everyday life — the fleeting expressions of my children, the way light moves across a face, the beauty hidden inside ordinary moments, and the emotional layers found within chaos, play, motherhood, and memory. Through many years of trial and error with watercolor, acrylics, inks, graphite, mixed media, paint pens, and countless surfaces and materials, I have discovered that mistakes are often where the most meaningful creativity begins.
Fun facts about me:
🌿 Some people never leave home without their phone. I never leave home without carrying some form of art supplies with me almost everywhere I go...a tiny sketchbook shoved into my purse? Yep! Sketchbooks, paints, pencils, inks, or mixed media materials are often tucked into my bag because creativity is not simply a hobby to me — it is part of the way I experience and move through everyday life. If inspiration strikes or it's just been another long day of hustling in motherhood... Im ready!
🌿Coffee. Anytime, any place. I'm making it? Your's making it? If it's coffee. I'll take it☺️
🌿Reading. I love to read. I'm an old soul and sometime I just need to escape from 2026 vibes and a thrifted book, crisp pages, and just words to get lost in is a form of therapy in itself.
